the babington project
The babington project is the name of our barrel-aged series. Named after Sir Anthony Babington, who developed a cipher for Mary Queen of Scots in l586 in her effort to assassinate Queen Elizabeth I, and put Mary on the English throne. Letters using Babington's code were disseminated by putting them into a watertight casing in the stoppers of empty barrels from a brewer in Burton upon Trent. Although not all of our barrel aged beers will have a name connecting it to babington, each has a unique name and story connecting it to the world of code breaking and the Decipher brand.
